In the run-up to London 2012, the Italian Olympic Team is preparing to face its sporting challenges in style.
Athletes will be wearing casual and formal apparel designed by EA7 Emporio Armani every moment of the day and on official occasions for the duration of the games.
The collection was unveiled in Milan, at an event attended by Giorgio Armani and several athletes from the Olympic Team, including Valentina Vezzali, Tania Cagnotto, Andrea CassarĂ and Matteo Aicardi.
Each athlete will have a complete capsule wardrobe, starting from a trolley and luggage to essentials such as presentation tracksuit, nylon bomber, Bermuda shorts, trousers, T-shirts, and of course running shoes.
The kit includes fifty pieces in an elegant combination of midnight blue and white. Giorgio Armani chose this shade of blue, used by Italy until the seventies, to create a sense of continuity with tradition, which expresses the idea of timeless elegance.
Patriotic pride is key to the project; the Italian national anthem is embroidered in gold italics over the heart inside the jackets and sweatshirts.
Best of luck to everyone competing in the games!
