Giorgio Armani hosts Albert Hobbs

Along with Sandra Brant, Ingrid Sischy and The Cinema Society, designer and cinephile Giorgio Armani presented the premiere screening of the film Albert Nobbs, from Roadside Attractions with Academy Award nominee Glenn Close in the starring role, as well as one of the film’s writers and producers.
The film, which will be released in the U.S. on January 27th,  2012, tells the story of a woman who lives as a man in order to work and survive in 19th Century Ireland. Three decades later, she finds that she’s trapped in a life that’s no longer her own.

At the screening, Close appeared wearing a black trouser suit by Giorgio Armani Privé. Other guests – many of them film stars, musicians and friends of Armani –  included Sinead O’Connor (in Giorgio Armani), the film’s co-star Mia Wasikowska, the director Rodrigo Garcia, Viola Davis (in a Giorgio Armani white pantsuit), Lauren Bacall, John Leguizamo, Angela Bassett, Daniel Radcliffe, Gabourey Sidibe, Lou Reed, Patti Smith, Debbie Harry, Courtney Love, Parker Posey, Mary Beth Hurt, Tony Danza, Alan Alda, Cillian Murphy, Zoe Kravitz, Bruce Weber, Gina Gershon, Padma Lakshmi and Paul Haggis.
Ms. Close has already played the role of Albert Nobbs for the theatrical version of the play in 1982, and turning the play into a film has been a personal project of hers for over a decade. The designer and the movie star have been longtime friends, and Mr. Armani outdid himself once again, throwing what turned out to be the surprise concert of the season. After the screening at MoMa, the guests were taken to the Armani Ristorante where they were treated to Grey Goose cocktails, fabulous food, and a special performance by Sinéad O’Connor, who sang her new single, “Lay Your Head Down”.
There’s already a lot of buzz around Glenn Close’s performance as Albert Nobbs, which is said to be Oscar-worthy. Wouldn’t she look stunning on the red carpet in something by Armani Privé?
